Ryan Metke’s latest project—The Nests—is created from real wasp, Hornet and Honey Bee dwellings, all of which once housed living creatures. Collected throughout the course of Metke’s travels, Metke ensures that each nest is truly unique by using direct burnout casting methods; the nests are cast in brass and then electroplated in 14-karat gold. The Nests, which are popping up beneath eaves or in tight corners throughout the landscape, are meant to appear as though they are still occupied. They create a spontaneous, perhaps slightly frightened, but ultimately curious audience. With this latest work, Metke gives us his take on the Constructivist's "Corner Relief."
